The Annette Lacey Masterclass Degustation

Annata is proud to welcome Annette Lacey, Master of Wine, for an extraordinary evening of wine education and fine dining on Saturday 30th January 2027. Annette has personally selected ten premium wines for the occasion, each chosen to reveal how variety, terroir and winemaking shape what is in the glass. Over four unhurried hours, learn to taste with the confidence of a professional, then put it into practice across a five-course degustation.
As a Master of Wine (MW), Annette holds one of the most demanding qualifications in the wine world, awarded by the Institute of Masters of Wine in London. The title demands mastery of viticulture, winemaking and the global wine trade through rigorous theory papers, an original research thesis and six intensive blind tastings. Fewer than 430 people have ever earned it; just 427 hold it today across 31 countries, fewer than 30 are based in Australia, and barely a third are women. Annette belongs to a remarkably rare and accomplished group of global wine experts.
The Masterclass. Your evening begins at 6:00pm with a one-hour tutorial led by Annette: the essence of a formal wine qualification, distilled for wine lovers with no time for months of study. Discover how to taste with method, how the great regions and their terroirs shape a wine’s character, and how winemaking choices such as whole-bunch pressing change flavour and texture. The class focuses on five pairs of tasting concepts: acid and texture, oak and richness, aroma and fruit, power and structure, and methods and traditions. You will learn to taste as the professionals do.
The Wines and the Degustation. Every wine is Annette’s own choice: ten classics of their regions, each selected to teach something. Dinner commences at 7:00pm. After a welcome Champagne, Chef Jordon Garcia’s five-course menu matches four courses with two wines tasted side by side, from Alsace and Chablis to Burgundy, the Rhône, Bordeaux and the finest of Australia, before a finale of cheese with a rare 21-year-old Tawny, and petit fours to close. Throughout the five-course degustation, Annette shares her tasting experience and discusses the relationship between food and wine.
Your Certificate. Every guest receives a certificate of attendance personally signed by Annette Lacey MW. Whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or simply love wine and want to taste with greater insight, this is a Masterclass to remember.
The Perfect Christmas Gift. For the wine lover who has everything, give an evening with a Master of Wine. Gift Vouchers are available now, and should the recipient be unable to attend on the day, the full value of the voucher may be used for any Annata dining experience or wine purchase.
