Tasting Notes
A perfumed bouquet of violets, red plum, and stewed strawberries. Some black pepper notes with air. The restraint draws you in, commanding your focus. Medium body to the palate, with excellent verve and a cooling mineral feel – baked red plum, stewed strawberry, wilted red rose, and red cherry lift. The palate is structured with grainy tannins, offering a harmonious balance of fruit and minerality.
Wine Making
This is a wine formerly made under Daniel Landi's label. The 2021 vintage is now produced Vitícola Mentridana under the direction of Curro Bareño, who takes over in this cool vintage. The wine is made from 6 small plots that are all 70 years old. The grapes from each plot are fermented separately and, depending on the vineyards, with shorter or longer macerations (longer in the vineyard they called El Fin del Mundo). Vinification has been like this since 2017, with contained extraction from the earlier-ripening vineyards and getting more grip from the slow-ripening places that have the rock and give the grip. The grapes are hand-harvested due to the challenging terrain, fermented with wild yeasts, and aged in oak barrels, imparting subtle complexity.
The Vineyard
The name Las Uvas de la Ira translates to "The Grapes of Wrath". It is the name of a red wine produced by Vitícola Mentridana in the Méntrida region of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The wine is made from Garnacha grapes grown in vineyards in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, near the village of El Real de San Vicente. The vineyards are all planted around 850m above sea level. The vineyards are farmed organically using biodynamic viticulture.
