About Hugh Hamilton Wines
The Black Sheep of Australia's oldest wine family stands out with its heritage and attitude. Hugh and daughter Mary Hamilton’s great-great-great grandfather, who arrived in South Australia in 1837, was a rule-breaker and history-maker. He was a thirsty pioneer who arrived in the new colony in 1837 and was shocked to find no wine, so he made it happen. Over 185 years and 6 generations, the family has maintained its boutique operation built on a legacy of wine-making expertise. They are contemporary, dare to break the rules, and make unique winemaking decisions.
It all begins with great soil from their sustainably farmed estate vineyards in the world-renowned and diverse wine region of McLaren Vale. The estate vineyards are sustainably farmed, and the grapes are grown organically and biodynamically without the use of pesticides. The family's unconventional approach has led them to plant interesting varietals and make bold winemaking decisions you won’t find elsewhere. The Black Sheep is a license to thrill!
