The Fruits of the China Wine Renaissance

  • Annata 69 Willoughby Road Crows Nest, NSW, 2065 Australia (map)

China's wine culture has a splendid history dating back to the Han and Tang Dynasty, a legacy that has never faded. From the eastern coastline of Shandong to the eastern foothills of Ningxia in Northwest Gobi, generations of Chinese winemakers have earned their own voice and respect on the world wine map. China's wine industry has experienced significant growth and international recognition in recent years, with wineries like Silver Heights and Chateau Nine Peaks playing pivotal roles in this transformation.

Join us at Annata Restaurant to enjoy a four-course menu curated by Jordon Garcia to embrace the beautiful wines of two of the most admired winemakers in China; Silver Heights & Chateau Nine Peaks. This unique wine evening hosted by China wine expert Kyle Reno Lenci will explore how new world audacity meets old world know-how as we taste the wine of two of the country’s best winemakers. Emma Gao from Silver Heights studied winemaking in Bordeaux and worked at Chateau Calon-Segur, one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in France. On returning home, she created China’s first Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyard. On the other side of the country, Dutch-led Chateau Nine Peaks makes wines in an old-world style with the hand of Denise Consentino, a talented young winemaker who studied in her native Italy and France before her journey into Chinese winemaking. Both are different, both are delicious!
