 Tasting Notes

The colour is ruby red, dark and opaque with violet glints. The nose is both  intense and elegant, with notes of black cherries in alcohol, blackcurrants, cocoa, graphite, humus, roasted coffee, rhubarb, leather, black pepper and cloves. On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, with well-integrated tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Wine Making

The winemaker is Benedetto Alessandro. He is an Agronomist with a degree in Wine Economics and Marketing. The soil composition of the Syrah vineyards is clay and calcareous, with lots of calcium. The altitude of the vineyards which were planted in 1989  is 330-400 meters above sea level. Harvest was during the first ten days of September with manual harvest and grape selection. Built in 2000, the winery is equipped with automated temperature and humidity control, ideal for refining and maturing wines. The maceration was for 12 days at a constant temperature (10°C before fermentation for about 7 days in steel tanks (23-26°C). French oak tonneaux are used in the production of Syrah: the wine stays first in the casks for about 12 months and then in bottles for another 6 months, always at a constant temperature of 18°C.

The Vineyard

The Alessandro family operate a renowned winery located in the Monreale DOC of western Sicily. Camporeale is a small village between the Palermo and Trapani areas. It is about halfway (north to south Sicily) between Palermo and Menfi. The vineyards are in Contrada Mandranova in the Camporeale countryside. Founded in 1999, the family-owned estate is managed by three cousins—Benedetto, Anna, and Benedetto Alessandro. Alessandro di Camporeale are completely organic farmers, with only sulphur and copper used in the vineyards. Syrah grapes have wonderfully adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the territory
