2022  Eno-Trio ‘Dejaniro’ Grenache

Variety:  100% Grenache

Region of Origin:  I.G.T. Terre Siciliane

 Tasting Notes

The Dejaniro displays a garnet to violet-red colour. It has silky tannins and an intense aroma of wild berries, which are attributed to the high altitude and temperature variations. It captures the character of high-altitude Sicilian vineyards with ancient vines, emphasizing the mineral-rich volcanic soil that gives Grenache unique structure and complexity.

 Wine Making

With more than 30 years of experience working as agronomist and winemaker in multiple local wineries, Nunzio is one of Etna most regarded wine producers. From the early eighties until 2009 Nunzio built an unparalleled knowledge and experience as lead agronomist at a famous local winery being at the forefront of the pioneering implementation of the “Selezione Massale” technique in Etna used to replant and restore only those vines producing the finest grapes. During this period Nunzio and his family made a small quantity of wine for friends and family. In 2012 daughters Stefany and Désirée persuaded Nunzio to start making wine under his own label and the story of this beautiful ecological trio began.  the Enio-Trio reds mature in second or third passage Barriques / Tonneaux for 12 to 24 months depending on the wine. Nunzio’s wines are not filtered, clarified or stabilized as Nunzio is a firm believer that wine must be a true and honest expression of the typicity and uniqueness of its terroir. The Dejaniro grenache grapes are harvested manually between October 10th and 15th, using ventilated crates. Once they arrive at the winery, they are crushed and destemmed, then placed in open vats where spontaneous fermentation begins.

The Vineyard

The centuries-old grenache vineyards of Eno-Trio are cultivated at 1100 meters above sea level in the "Contrada Nave" area in the town of Bronte. Originally, around 1883, the Mount Etna grenache cuttings were brought from France by the Nelson family, who planted several hectares in Maniace, then part of Bronte and home to the Nelson Duchy. With the arrival of phylloxera, many vineyards disappeared with the exception of a few remaining in Contrada Nave (Bronte), Maniace, and Contrada Gurrida (Randazzo).
