Wine Making
Enrico Rivetto is the owner and winemaker of the Rivetto estate. He is known for his dedication to biodynamic farming and sustainable viticulture, producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy. All grapes are manually harvested to ensure optimal selection. After de-stemming and pressing, the must undergoes maceration for 8-10 days. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures around 30°C, utilizing natural wild yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is completed to enhance the wine's texture. The wine is aged for 12 months in 30-hectoliter Slavonian, Hungarian, and Swiss oak barrels, imparting subtle oak influences without overshadowing the fruit character. This wine is named after "Zio Nando," the individual who planted the original vines in 1944, honouring the vineyard's rich heritage.
The Vineyard
Enrico Rivetto can talk to anyone in the world about his wines. A farmer at heart, he has slowly and strategically stitched together a lush quilt of an estate atop the Lirano hill near the town of Serralunga. Rivetto benefits from having all 23 hectares of his lands (15 of which are vineyards) on the same hilltop. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards with sandy limestone soils, low in nitrogen but rich in magnesium, situated at 365 meters elevation with western exposure. Notably, 30% of the vines were planted in 1944, contributing to the wine's depth and complexity.
