Tasting Notes

“Medium ruby, bright and clear in the glass. Raspberry and pencil shavings on the nose. Medium weight with a silky glide of red and blue fruits accentuated by hints of cedar and graphite minerality. Tannins caress the edges, and a lift of acidity adds a freshness through the core. Great length and it's precise and focused to the finish. A delightful wine that will sing even brighter with food”

Wine Making

The winemaker is the iconic Phillip Shaw, ranked amongst the world’s top 100 winemakers. Given the cool-climate conditions of the Orange region in New South Wales, the grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness to maintain a balance between acidity and sugar levels. The grapes are destemmed and undergo a cold soak prior to fermentation to enhance colour and flavour extraction. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel or open-top fermenters, with regular punch-downs or pump-overs to ensure thorough maceration. The wine underwent aging in oak barrels to the integrate the oak characteristics and the development of a smooth texture.

The Vineyards

The vineyards are located at Koomooloo in the NSW Central Tablelands near Orange.  Orange is different from other wine regions because of its elevation ranging from 600m, with the highest vineyards sitting at 1,100m on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range and Mt Canobolas, an extinct volcano. Orange is Australia’s highest vineyard area, providing a climate that’s typified by summers with warm days, cool nights, and cold winters. The mean January Temperature (MJT)is a relatively cool 21.9 degrees, making it a great place to grow grapes.
