2020 Enrico Rivetto Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Lirano
2020 Enrico Rivetto Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Lirano
The Rivetto family are based in SerraLunga and are one of the few Biodynamically certified producers in the region. A richly fruited and full flavoured wine with notes of violet and rose petals that add lift.
Tasting Notes
The colour is ruby red with garnet shades. The wine is well balanced, round and smooth with mild tannins. The wine is unfiltered and biodynamic, yet wonderfully vibrant and fruity. Notes of spices, berries, prunes and earthy notes combine beautifully with fine-grained tannins and freshness, that really expresses the pure characteristic of this grape variety.
The Winemaker
The winemaker is Enrico Rivetto. His Serralunga vineyards benefit enormously from the microclimate, solar exposure and the mineral richness of the soil. The grapes are manually harvested in late September after careful selection. They are then destalked and fermented naturally in Amphora with wild, indigenous yeasts. The wine macerates in these terracotta containers for a very long time. The refinement takes place within the same containers, capable of giving the wine a strong personality.
About The Winery
The Rivetto winery has been working for over a century in Lirano since 1902 between Serralunga d'Alba and Sinio, in the Cuneo area of Piedmont. The Nebbiolo vines grow at an altitude 400m with exposure to the west on clay-limestone soils - on the border of Barolo. Rivetto benefits from having all 23 hectares of his lands (15 of which are vineyards) on the same hilltop, allowing him to care for the vines and react to problems more efficiently. He is extremely invested in poly farming as a method to naturally stabilize and enrich the vineyard, in turn allowing it to care for itself more sustainably. He remains committed to biodynamic farming and is now the first Demeter certified producer in the zones of Barolo and Barbaresco. His wines have gained considerable international admiration over the last ten years, taking off in 2011 when his 2006 Barolo was ranked #16 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 list.
