2022 Fontanassa Gavi Ca Adua DOCG
A classic Gavi. Straw yellow colour with greenish reflection, aromas of citrus, grapefruit, cut grass, good freshness, persistent and mineral taste with a long lasting finish.
Tasting Notes
This is a classic Gavi regional wine. Straw yellow colour with greenish reflection, aromas of citrus, grapefruit, cut grass, good freshness, persistent and mineral taste with a long-lasting finish. Pronounced flavour intensity, with a creamy, buttery element and some sweet spices, crunchy citrus and stone fruit. Well-balanced, very dry with a marked acidity, counterbalanced by a fine fruitiness.
The Winemaker
Only the best producer from each of the 9 communes is allowed to join Gavi's elite and Marco Gemme, owner and winemaker of Fontanassa, is one of them. His wine is alive. No chemical product is added, even though it is allowed by the DOCG. The wine stabilization is carried out only with long periods in cold ambient temperatures with selected yeasts. After the wine is left on its yeasts, only one filtration is carried out at the time of bottling.
About The Winery
This sub-area has its own demarcated name Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG (often abbreviated to Gavi di Gavi). Set between Piedmont and Liguria, Gavi has extraordinary beauty between intact forests and manicured vineyards, with trails that climb the hills. The Fontanassa winery is located in Rovereto di Gavi, in the heart of the historic area of Gavi D.O.C.G. The first bottles were produced in 1988 with the arrival of Marco and Roberto Gemme. Marco Gemme farms his 15 hectares using organic viticulture methods. The soil is rocky and poor, with clay and sand rich in iron. Marco’s consulting oenologist is Gaspare Buscemi. Fontanassa is an old, fortified farmhouse from 16th century. Already in a sharecropping contract dated December 27, 1634, the cultivation of white and red grape vineyards is mentioned.
