Tasting Notes
A brilliant straw yellow colour, with remarkably persistent perlage (bubbles). The nose provides sensations of apple, underpinned by tones of biscuit and citrus and crusty bread. The palate is fresh and lively. The fruity notes of Chardonnay grapes are intense. A crisp, beautifully balanced, quality Italian sparkling wine made Méthode Traditionnelle. The taste is fresh and presents with great finesse.
The Winemaker
Matteo, Marcello, Camilla and Alessandro Lunelli lead the Ferrari Wine company. In 2023, iconic French wine maker Cyril Brun from the Charles Heidsieck Champagne House was appointed to lead all wine making operations. He replaced Ruben Larentis who was winemaker for 37 years. Ferrari Trento has won Producer of the Year five times at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. The chardonnay grapes are grown on vineyards ranging from 300 to 700m above sea level in the Trentino mountains. The wine was matured for at least 30 months on its lees.
About The Winery
ThTrentino is an utterly Alpine region in the south-east of Veneto within the Central Alps (west of the Adige) but most of Trentino’s mountains belong to the Oriental Alps, a sub-group of which also forms the Dolomites. Trento produces impressive sparkling wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir made in the same way as Champagne. Cantine Ferrari, the region's leading producer was founded by Giulio Ferrari in 1902. The Lunelli family assumed ownership in the 1950s and is now led by third generation Matteo Lunelli. Climate change has affected vineyards making the valley floor now unsuitable for production of sparkling wines. For this reason, Ferrari has taken its vineyards higher, looking for more acidity, longevity, and complexity. Kissed by the Mediterranean sun during the day and cooled during the night by cold air coming down form the top of the mountains. Ferrari says the diurnal shift adds quality to the grapes, enriching them with an abundance of different flavours and fragrances.
