Tasting Notes

Well balanced in freshness and structure, this fine white wine is made in a limited edition. Medium yellow color. Unusual bouquet of nuts, chestnut, but also the usual green apple, pear, and citrus. Medium body with balanced acidity. Long aftertaste.

The Winemaker

Davide Rivetti is the head winemaker and son of the owner, Massimo Rivetti. The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, fermented and aged for a year in 1200 litre French oak barrels. The grapes are harvested during the coolest hours of the day, with the use of dry ice to preserve the grape’s character, then immediately brought to the cellar for a process of crio-maceration at 0°C for 24 hours to extract all the aromas contained in the skins. The average age of the vines is 10 years with a yield of 9,000 kg per hectare. The grapes are harvested during the first ten days of September. Fermentation is in small oak barrels and then aged in 1,200 L French barrels at a temperature of 13°C for the first 20 days. Aging duration is 10 months. Since 2009, the wine production at Massimo Rivetti does not include pesticide or herbicide. In 2016, the winery got certification on all their wine production.

About The Winery

Prior to the turn of the century, Massimo Rivetti was a wine negotiant, producing grapes and wine for other wineries. From 2000 onwards, Massimo created his own brand and began making wine from his own grapes. The current production exceeds 150 thousand bottles which are mostly exported; however, they also sell wine through their winery in Neive and a shop in Alba. Their main wines are Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barbaresco, but they also produce small quantities of Moscato,  Chinato, and Chardonnay.  The vineyards are among the oldest in the area. This family winery, Massimo Rivetti, has 25 hectares cultivated under organic certification with indigenous yeast and no pesticides or chemicals used. The family history dates to the 19th century. The winery is near the village of Neive on Serraboella Hill. All the fields are grouped around three farmhouses: Froi, Garassino and Palazzina.
